How Much: No cost to participate (just need an outhouse on wheels) or watch.
Five years is a long time to spend in an outhouse, but that’s how long the Fruita Fall Festival Outhouse Races sponsored by Western Rockies Federal Credit Union has been running.
The Outhouse Race runs in stages, with the Number One winner in each heat moving on to the next heat. The Number One, Number Two, and, well, third place overall winners win prizes and the Number One winner trots home with the glory and the coveted trophy. Let’s just hope they don’t push themselves past the tipping point.
The outhouses are carefully constructed. There are no crappy cardboard outhouses allowed – all structures must be made of solid materials such as wood, metal, or composite. Outhouses should resemble an actual outdoor toilet, and a prize will be awarded for the most creatively designed outhouse.
